Emily and Jamie met, originally, in Acapulco in 2008. Both were there to attend Bikram’s teacher training. Having been placed in the same group for the grueling nine weeks of training, they developed a strong and what would prove to be lasting friendship.
At the time of training, Emily was living in the Chicago area and Jamie in the Washington DC area. However, they continued to see each other regularly after training as Jamie’s husband had family in the Chicago area and would come to visit fairly often.
Their friendship, passion for yoga, and desire to teach continued to grow. Despite the distance, their families became good friends as well. In 2011, Jamie’s family had the opportunity to move to the Chicago area and jumped on it. As it turns out, they ended up moving to a town just minutes from where Emily and her family were living.
From the very beginning of their friendship, both Jamie and Emily knew they wanted to open their own yoga studio. As time went on, and situations changed, the idea of opening a studio together seemed to be a realistic, if somewhat distant, goal.
When approached by Stuart Getz to take over ownership of Tiger Dog Yoga, there wasn’t even a moment of hesitation. Their years of experience teaching as well as their long-term desire of owning and operating their own studio made the choice obvious.
Today, Jamie and Emily are thrilled to offer Sweat Junkie to the community. It has been the fulfillment of one of their long term dreams and both are determined to do their best to help fulfill the dreams of their students and staff.
